21. Wendy-Peter Escape & Return / Mother Wendy
Peter Pan - a ballet. Act 3
- Escape of Wendy and Peter
A moment of relief in victory, but the tide is coming in, and Wendy and Peter are in trouble. Peter has a kite and secures Wendy's escape by having her hold on to the kite tail as the stronEg wind takes her away. Peter, stranded and about to drown, sees the Neverbird float by in a big nest. He chases the bird out, climbs into the nest and floats to shore.
- Wendy/Peter Return
Wendy returns to the cave-house. She has a lonely moment in the woods before she goes underground. The Lost Boys are overjoyed to see her, and she to see them. She tells the story of the fight and of her escape, and of Peter's bravery. But she is distraught, afraid that Peter won't come back.

- Mother Wendy
Wendy puts the children to bed.
(This piece is an original nursery song called "Song of the Mothers", composed for the ballet, although the lyric is of course not used here).
After the boys are ready for bed, Wendy tries to get Peter to play the father, but he refuses. So Wendy plays mother alone, putting the boys to bed as her mother did in Act 1. Peter lies down and falls asleep.
Wendy freezes as she hears stirrings outside, above the underground.
