9. Cathedral

THE CATHEDRAL
The church is seen in ritual splendor. A baptism is taking place, monks walk and chant, altar boys and priests pass, communion is being served, etc. Claude walks through, goes through a small door, and ascends the tower to his garret.
CLAUDE'S GARRETT / THE CHOICE
Claude is in deep despair over the stirring of his lust. He appeals to a statue of the Virgin for love and guidance. However, a vision of Esmeralda intrudes and he finds himself torn between the virgin and the Gypsy girl.
