ASSAULT ON NOTRE DAME
The soldiers and street people have come to take Esmeralda away. Her sanctuary has been revoked by the secular government. Q. fights them off to the best of his ability while . . .
ESCAPE OF CLAUDE, ES., GR., AND GOAT
. . . Claude, Esmeralda and Gringoire (who has come to warn of the attack) escape from the cathedral through a secret door. The music becomes more subdued as the small group makes its way farther from the church. Gringoire and the goat go off, leaving Claude and Esmeralda alone in the square.
CLAUDE BEGS FOR LOVE (REFUSED 3)
A waltz, as Claude tries once more to gain Esmeralda's love… In the third section he towers over her, telling her if she will be his slave, he will save her. She refuses. He then goes to his knees and tells her if she will be his master, he will save her. Again, she refuses.
He puts his hood up (bells) and steps back into the shadows. After Es. dances a brief last solo to the woodwinds before . . .
ESMERALDA GIVEN UP TO POLICE
